What's happening in gardening this month
We're coming into the Autumn and Winter seasons, when the garden will not look at it's best. Below are a few tips to keep it tidy and ready to bloom in the Spring
Checklist:
- Prune all shrubs and trees, and clear cuttings & leaves off the lawn, as this will damage the grass if left lying.
- When the temperature drops below 5 degrees C the grass will stop growing, so if it looks like it could do with a cut do it NOW.
- Fork the lawn to aerate the ground and to help drain away surface water.
- Removing dead heads from shrubs & plants will encourage new growth in the Spring.
- You should avoid walking on your lawn when it is frozen as this damages the grass plants and will lead to a disease called fusarium which then leaves bald, dead patches in the grass.
